How to study for the 2009 exam
Please find notes on "how to study for the 2009 exam" at the lhs margin. You are advised to follow these guidelines carefully in order to be best prepared for the exam. All indicated chapters/sections should be CAREFULLY studied. You will notice that some material that we discussed in the course is in fact NOT highlighted and henceforth this will NOT appear in the exam.
ps: I am aware that we do not have solutions online for all relevant problems on the exercise sheets. If you have (partial) solutions to such problems, I am willing to check those for you, and work them into model answers that I then publish online. But if you want this done before the exam, you should be sending me such (reasonable attempts to) solutions as soon as possible.

End of course; problem answers and exam preparation.
Thanks for taking this course, which has now come to its end. I thought it good to remind you here of certain things I told you in class:
Thanks to you all for attending, and in particular thanks to Martin for his lectures at the end of the course.
Happy holidays and all the best for 2009,
Jeroen
- I will do my best to publish here most of the answers to the exercises on the problem sheets. You should expect to see them appearing here in January.
- Also I hope to have written the exam in January, and as soon as I have done this I will pubish here some instructions on how to prepare for the exam, detailing as much as possible what I expect you to know/understand from the notes and exercises.
Thanks to you all for attending, and in particular thanks to Martin for his lectures at the end of the course.
Happy holidays and all the best for 2009,
Jeroen

Last lecture on monday 15 December
Just to let you know that the last M3A23 lecture will be on monday 15 December 9-11am. Please also be aware of the accompanying lecture notes invariant manifolds (by Martin Rasmussen) and on hyperbolicity from [BS], in the left hand margin.
Notes on invariant manifolds
In the lecture(s) on the Stable Manifold Theorem Martin has followed in spirit a paper by Bernd Aulbach, see in left margin Aulbach[1998]. Please note that the general level of this paper is well above this course, and the material is provided for those who have an interest beyond what is presented in the lecture.

Enhanced coursework M4/MSc
You find the task for the enhanced coursework on the left hand margin with accompanying notes, [BS] section 7.3. Please try not to copy from the notes (or other texts) and provide details that demonstrate that you thought about the details. Hand-in deadline is identical to the one for the other M4/MSc enhanced courseworks (somewhere early January).
